What's the purpose of these curfew laws?

A parent has the right to buy their 8 year old an iphone with Wi-Fi, just like they have the right to not insist their 12 year old do chores. In the same way a parent has the right to let their 14 year old stay out till 4:00 AM. Everyone will ask "why should a 14 year old stay out at 4:00 AM" and I ask "why does an 8 year old need their own iphone?" and your answer is "they don't," just like a 14 year old "has no business staying out till 4:00 AM" So, should we make it illegal for parents to buy an 8 year old their own iphone?

I think the curfew laws are there to stop vandals. It doesn't really do anything to stop them though. When I was 12-14 (I'm 17 now) me and my friends would be out until like 4 am just walking around, doing whatever we wanted. So there's really no point in them

Curfews don't work. Generally, the parents who let their children run wild, don't ever bother keeping their offspring in check anyway, laws or no laws. The same indifferent, lousy parents are the first one to protest violently when their kids get arrested for vandalism or things like that.

Some people just shouldn't have the right to procreate.

Curfew laws are for the protection of the community. How is giving an 8 year old a cell phone a community safety issue?

And, a parent does NOT have the right to let their 14 year old stay out until 4:00 AM. Even with parental consent, a 14 year old can be cited for curfew violation.

*EDIT* - Curfew laws are not just to stop teens from vandalizing and doing other crimes. It also PROTECTS teens from having crimes committed against them late at night. Yes, I know that if someone is out to beat up a teen (or other crime), curfew will not stop them, but it will stop random crimes that happen late at night.
