What should I do? Will I have a future?
I think that I'm great at writing and others do too. I was always one for words, I'm good at grammar, and I know some pretty big words for a incoming sophomore. I have always really thought about a career about writing, because I'm good at it and I love it. I've always wanted to be like a journalist or something, and I think that writing articles for newspapers would be so cool. I just took a test for what job would be right for me: pretty basic questions. The job "writer" came up as a 100% absolute possibility for a job. I did some research though, and found out that 80 percent of American families did not read a single book in the last year, and not to mention with more technological things coming up in the future, and what we've already gotten so far to eliminate books and stuff (kindles, iPhones, etc) will there be a future for writers? With reading rates dropping so fast is it worth it or should I consider a different career? Or do you think there might still be possibilities? I mean, I'll graduate high school and go off to college in only three years, and I want to be prepared and know what I should do for a career. This is an opinionated question, feel free to answer whatever you want, thanks.
Honestly I think there's a higher chance of being a big time celebrity than a "decently" successful writter. It's very rare for a writer to make a salary they can live off of.
You should just not try to look. See what happens. See what you Really Really want to do besides a writer. Or maybe look for jobs that involve writing and books like a college professor.
There will always be a need for writers. Many jobs that are not "writing" jobs have aspects that require writing skills. Also, just because books might not be in hardcover or paperback doesn't mean that books aren't being written. You mentioned Kindle, well those are books people read on there.
You might also think about having an online presence where you write articles about things you're interested in. It could be a blog or website, Either way, you can monetize it and make money that way.So, if you end up doing something else, a blog could be a nice side income doing something you love and are good at.
- With major tech companies, how detailed of road maps do they have regarding future products? Such as Google or Apple. With the road maps that they keep a secret, how far out do they usually make their decisions on what to include in products. Such as, do you think Apple already has a very good idea of what the specs will be of the iPhone that's announced in September of next year or even the following year?
- What gift should I get my future wife for wedding? Salaam Everyone I was wondering what gift I should get my future wife to be? I will be getting married next month? * I haven't talked to her much since getting engaged last year so I don't know what she is really into… In our culture we're not supposed to talk to each other until we're married. ** Also I already got her Ring. > I was thinking > iPhone or iPad?
- Upgrade to iOS 7.0 and future iOS'es? I've downloaded and installed the developer version of iOS 7 on my iPhone. When the public release is distributed in fall, will I be able to upgrade to that one? And if I miss it, will I be able to upgrade to future updates (like iOS 7.0.1 and 7.1.0 for example)?
- I payed a deposit to get my iPhone, do I get this deposit back in the future? I payed a $400 deposit for my iPhone with Verizon, but do I get it back in the future? I got it around May of last year.
