What takes up the other portion of my iPhone storage capacity?

I have the iPhone 4 and almost 1/3 of my capacity is taken up my "other" and I want to know what that is so i can do something about it.

The "other" can be jailbreak data, email and their attachments, settings, caches, calendar entries, corrupted files, and etc. You can remove the corrupted files by restoring.

The "other" portion on your iPhone is usually the system files and recovery backups etc. That your iPhone needs in case it fails. But as you mentioned it's taking 1/3, maybe because the system has been filling with temporary files and/or recovery files. If it is becoming a problem, you can back up your songs, pictures, video, contact and anything else you need then just do a complete restore. That should clear your iPhone storage and re install the OS. The you can bring the things you backed up to your iCloud or where ever you did, back to your phone.
Hope this helps

  • Will my iphone run slow if i use up all/most of storage capacity? I got a 32 GB iphone 5. If i put all my music on there + all my apps, pictures, and videos, ill only have about 1 GB left. Will this slow down my iphone at all? What if i end up using all the storage? What's a good of amount of storage to leave free in order for performance not to be affected?
  • What to do about my iphone storage saying I'm using up way more photo storage than I actually am? My storage says I have 132 photos that's using up most of my storage; almost 3 GB. I have only 52 photos and 15 videos in my phone. It seems like it may be using storage from pictures I deleted, but apparently they're still using space? ? Has this happened to anyone else. I've taken my phone to an apple store, and I didn't get any answers.
