What to get my children for Christmas on a tight budget?
We're ver poor, like food stamps poor and we live from paycheck to paycheck. We have saved up some money to have a $100 budget for Christmas. So I want to spend 50 each on them. My daughters are 14 (Lexi) and 6 (Jessie) Her are some things about them.
Lexi: She has a babysitting job every Saturday and has saved up to buy herself an Iphone 5 so we aren't going to buy her a cellphone. Even though we're poor, she likes to dress well and keep herself looking good by wearing makeup and getting her nails done. She loves clothes and shoes but doesn't have much; about 10 short sleeves, 8 long sleeves, 3 blue jeans, 2 jackets, 2 yoga pants, 2 skirts, 3 dresses, 2 cardigans, 1 hoodie, 2 pairs of boots brown and black, one pair of knock off converses, and 2 pairs of sandels. We usually get clothes and shoes at yard sales but we want to look for nice but cheap clothes at thrift shops but I don't know where to look. She loves to read books and is very artistic and creative and loves to create DYI projects and draw/paint.
Jessie: She loves clothes as well and has the about the same amount of clothes as her sister. I wanna look for some cheap but pretty clothes for her too. She loves to play with baby dolls and barbies but only has about 2 baby dolls and 1 barbie and 1 ken and really wants some kind of barbie house. She also loves to read and enjoys playing house and outside.
So, based on what I told you about them, what are some good but affordable things to get them for Christmas? The reason I'm asking is because my husband and I haven't bought Christmas or birthday gifts for my daughters for the past 5 years and we actually have the money to this year. On past Christmas and Birthdays, we just gave them candy and cupcakes with a candle and spent family time with ask their gift (we don't live near family) and I want to make it special for them this year.
Maybe you can consider to buy some presents overseas websites, because they are more economic
First, you sound like such a sweet family who is making the best of a bad situation. I hope that things get better for you in coming years. I don't know about your area, but Goodwill and Salvation Army are great places for all things secondhand. Depending on your specific area (I know where I used to live the Goodwills were great, but the Salvation Army was terrible, but I just moved and it has switched) start going into them to see what has the best selection. I love buying clothes from there because I often find very gently used - or NEVER used with tags! - stuff that would cost me at least 10-15 times more retail. Also something like a Dollar Tree is good for little stuff.
A fun way to stretch a dollar may be "fun kits". Basically, get a box and decorate it (wrapping paper from the dollar store, or just markers, etc). Then put small things in it that they will like. $50 will go a long way here if you are careful. If Lexi really likes to read, go to a Salvation Army and get a few books she may like and put them in there. Go to Wal-mart and get her a new sketchbook and some pencils. Maybe a pretty case for her phone? For Jessie, try a Big Lots or Ollie's (or whatever the equivalent in your area is) and find a cool Barbie house or clothes for them.
As a side note, I'm not sure how you feel about charity, but often if you go to a church or a friend who has a church and tell them your situation, then will put you on an angel tree or something and your children can get gifts through them as long as they are reasonable.
Plenty of good clothes available at Goodwill, Savers, Y's Buys, and Salvation Army.
Lots of small goodies at Dollar Tree.
- What should I use to loosen a tight screw? I want to replace my iphone 4 screen (because it's cracked) and the instructions say to take out lke 10 screws. I got 9/10 and the last one is stuck. Whenever I google it, it tells me to use WD40. I don't know what that is or where to get it and I need a solution as quick as possible. I don't want to ruin my phone btw. I don't have time to go and buy it, so is there any other solution?

- Children who come from poor families feel inferior sometimes but they are? Just as valuable, having the lastest iphone etc does not make someone valuable does your valuable anyway and don't you think these companies are putting too much pressure on families.
