What type of on iPhone is an iPhone 3G?

Ok so it's my birthday next month. I saw in my dads Internet thing that he's getting me an iPhone 3G. Is that an I phone 1/2/3/4/4S or 5?

It is one of the first and you can't get updates for it now. Most apps will not work on it.

The iPhone 3G is the second generation iPhone (I guess you could call it the iPhone 2).

It is an old (released in 2008), slow and discontinued iPhone.

In todays world at least go to 4. 4 is far more advanced hardware and is free on a 2 year contract, no reason not to go that route today. Granted you still have to pay monthly bills, but it makes no sense to get an older iphone since 4 is free.

The iPhone 3G is an iPhone 3G. Its in its name.

There's no iPhone 1, 2, 3.

I wouldn't recommend getting a 3G though. For a while now no longer gets updates & no longer is in the app cycle (meaning apps require a higher version than it could run).

I've had iphone 3G for 2 years and still works really well, most apps work except the ones that need gyro or similar stuff to work, Internet, fb, twitter depends what you want it for but these all work, good phone, I still get all the updates to iOS

The iPhone 3G is the second iPhone which was released exactly 5 years ago (july 2008). The first was one was simply called the iPhone or iPhone 2G. Additionally, I may inform you that it is not a good phone to purchase at this age of smartphones. Being an outdated smartphone, it has a badly pixelated display and hardly offers any advanced features of today. Plus its camera is a mere 2 megapixels. That's pretty bad.

These are all phones worth having a good look at since they define best value for money in the whole budget range of smartphones. All of them have at least a 5 megapixel cameras, sharp + vibrant displays, and good processing unit power along with good customer reviews. These are all far better and far newer phones than the iPhone 3G. The Lumia 620 and the Sony Xperia you are the best phones from all my suggestions above so my specific suggestion is that you should aim to buy one of those if you can.
