What was the point in removing flappy bird from the App Store?

I honestly don't see what the point was. It was a good game and I'm sure the owner was making a ton of money off it. I know that it is addictive but it isn't as if people are loosing their jobs over it because they can't stop playing flappy bird. There have been other addictive iPhone/android games in the past such as temple run or candy crush, so it isn't as if a new gaming craze hasn't happened before. What do you think the owners reasons were for removing the game?

Game was very similiar to Mario (tubes etc ) so Nintendo could easily sue the author of the flappy birds not to mention other games like Angry Birds.
By removing the game from store author will still get money via ads in game but chances to get sue are now very very low since he is technicly NOT selling his game for money.
Genius movie from author of flappy birds.

The author said that the fame from Flappy Bird was getting too much for his simple life and he took it down to stop having so many interruptions in his life.
I doubt Nintendo could sue over a Green Pipe seeing as it's a common real life item just with a light green colour.
Pipes appeared in more colours than green throughout the Mario series.

Nintendo has denied any intention for a lawsuit, but it does more have to do with the trouble of owning a popular game than anything else.

While it is true the owner could have just left the game as is (in ads the game has earned the owner 50k), the amount of attention he has gotten for the game seemed a bit too troublesome to him. He described himself as a simple guy, so turning the game into anything more wouldn't have appealed to him, and with the way people were going on about it, they would have expected him to do more.

To be honest, I don't think he expected it to be that popular, and had nothing in place if it had taken off. He did admit to making it within a few days, so it had pretty much made the game on a lark. Not expecting this kind of feedback and did find it overwhelming.

  • Will Flappy Bird Stay on my Device? So, "Flappy Bird" has been removed from the app store, and I still have it installed on my iPhone5s. I'm concerned that it will get taken off somehow, so I turn auto-updates off. Can I turn it back on and still play it?
  • Why is Flappy Bird slow on iPhones but smooth on Android? I have a Galaxy S3 and my friend has an iPhone 5c. We both play Flappy Bird, but it seems so slow on his phone… My other friend has it on his iPhone 4S, and it still seems slow. It runs smoothly on my phone… My mum has an Xperia Z1 and it's smooth on her phone. What is it with the iPhone version?
  • Where can I sell my iphone 4 with flappy bird app installed? Its an Iphone 4 (16gb) T Mobile locked, cracked screen (on top left hand side, screen still visible, clear and functional), with flappy bird app installed. Am interested in selling it for at least £1000. Please give me mum suggestions.
  • What are your views on this iphone/flappy bird controversy? Basically this is the story of the flappy birds creator pulling the app from mobile stores because he can't handle it. All of a sudden there's an apple phone on auction at a ridiculous price. It all seems a bit too random in my opinion but who's to say if its legit or some sort of publicity? What are your views? The last checked price was £6,000,700… For a USED iPhone 4S with the flappy birds app installed.
