What's a reasonable time for a teenager to turn off their electronics?
I'm 16 years old, and i love and respect my parents very much.recently, they have been cracking down on the use of electronics and making 10 o'clock the shut off time for all electronics. For some reason, this hasn't been brought up until about a week ago. And was really enforced about 2 days ago. For me, the rule seems harsh, considering i'm a night owl that stays up until 1 or 2 in the morning, AND the only way i can trick my body into sleeping is listening to music.eventually yes, i could brake the habit, but that isn't the point. So i'm asking other parents, or teenagers when an appropriate time would be, if any.No, i don't stay up and text, no i don't do anything that would raise suspicion, i literally use the music on my iPhone and read a book.
I don't think that you should have to turn them off until you go to bed, if even then. If your parents enforce a strict bedtime as well (which they clearly don't, but it could be different during the school year), then the time for turning off electronics should be the same. They might be operating on the belief that exposure to screens before bed prevents you from going to sleep, which I have found to be entirely false- like you, I'm always up until at least 1 in the morning and have been up much later. If I can't sleep, I usually play a game or listen to music on my iPod. This has never prevented me from sleeping; it has actually helped.
If your parents still feel the need to enforce some sort of rule regarding electronics, they could base it on homework (during the school year). For instance, no electronics after a set time if homework isn't complete. However, I see no reason for restrictions at any time, especially the summer.
Not to be a bad influence, but how will your parents know if you continue to listen to music at night in order to go to sleep? There would be no negative consequences, and unless they actually confiscate your electronics at 10 o'clock, they probably wouldn't know. Disobeying this one rule for your own personal welfare (sleep, after all, is good,) isn't really that bad. I don't think that this is really disrespecting your parents, only doing what you know is best for you. However, if you aren't comfortable with breaking the rule, there's really nothing you can do but reason with them.
- Why is most teenager say cool story bro? It's been more than a year but I still don't get why people keep saying that. It's everywhere like the Internet, t-shirts and even iPhone case. What's the reason? Who started it?
- What to get a teenager for Christmas? I'm 15, female, and have no idea what I want. All of my family members keep asking me what I want and I can't think of anything. I'm not into fashion so that rules out clothes, jewelry, hair stuff or gift cards to any girly stores. I have an iPhone and a TV. I also already have a puppy if any of you were thinking that. It's not that I don't want anything, I just don't have any ideas on what I want.
