When do US carriers (AT&T, Verizon, etc) lower the price of older model iPhones?
Usually when a new iPhone comes out, the previous years model gets discounted by about $100. Does this price change usually happen when the new iPhone is announced, or is the price drop not effective until a few weeks later when the new model actually becomes available for sale?
The price change normally happens with the carriers, a few weeks to a month AFTER the newer phone goes into pre-orders and those preorders sell out (and start shipping). The next drop comes around the fall and holiday season as the carriers try to dump and many of the older phones in stock to make room for all the shiny new phones and devices people will want as gifts.
Usually when the phone is announced (next week Wednesday FYI). For the record iPhones are usually available for sale the 2nd Friday after they have been announced.
