When I'm on the phone with someone on my iPhone 4 I can't hear them?

I can hear them but very faintly! I got my iPhone 4 yesterday… Please help!

Added (1). Other than this issue everything else works fine

Added (2). And I've tried raising the volume!

When talking, press that button on the side of the phone to raise the volume

Maybe you have accidentally pressed the 'mute' button with your ear.

It could be that your speaker is broke, which is a possibly, but not likely. When your on the phone with someone, hit the volume up button on the side of the phone. If that doesn't work…

I would say its more ios related.

I would either try to back up your phone in itunes and then restore the ios software. Then restore your backup.
By doing that, your installing a fresh ios software and restoring all contacks and stuff.

Pretty much when I hold my iPhone 6s Plus to my ear for any of those apps and talk that way they can hear me fine. When I put them on speaker they stop being able to hear me. But whenever I FaceTime people it works fine. And whenever I have someone on speaker on a regular phone call, it also works fine. I've restarted my phone and tested all of the microphones with videos and voice memo. My mic doesn't seem to be the issue here.
