Which Broadband router is better up to $125?

I have some dear friends that are only basic computer users. They have given me permission to spend up to $125 to "get him online". He is having problems getting and staying online just to check his email. It runs Windows 8. The wife's computer runs Windows 7 and is the "main" computer. They presently have a wireless broadband router that they rent from Time Warner (the cable provider in our town) AND a signal booster. IMHO, the current main computer is not in the best spot. It is in the furthest corner in the "old" part of the house and His computer is in a corner of the "new" part of the house.Ten years ago they opened the outside wall in the back of their house and doubled their square footage with mostly "common" areas. Which is where all the other "connections" happen… Ipads, kindles, laptops, iphones, android phones, etc., which all have low connect speed and frequent signal drops. From the router to these areas you must go around 3 tight corners. Please give me your opinion on the best router up to $125 AND your opinion on if moving the router and booster to the other computer would also help. [apologies on length!] Thanks!

Almost all wireless routers in the market today support broadband - though the best performing ones typically follow the latest wireless technology standards.

Router technology is being improvised all the time, and while the wireless 802.11b an earlier version is still in use, its upgrade, 802.11g, is by far better in terms of connection speed, file sharing, and is also able to handle more clients than the former. This router is a good balance between performance and price, falling midway between the 802.11b and 802.11n.

The best wireless router for broadband is a further upgrade to the 802.11g; the 802.11n, which offers even better performance, more features though at much higher price points.

While my friend is computer challenged, I'm not. I already knew about 802.11b and 802.11n, I'm really looking for specific opinions - brand and style or model - however, I did not know about the "g" version so I'm awarding you Best Answer! (Don't you feel special? LOL just joking) Thank you, Timothy.

  • Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues? My wireless works fine with my iPad and iPhones. But then I try to connect it to my Windows 7 desktop, and it says that it's experiencing connectivity issues? I have the Ethernet cable hooked up to the main router, then my wireless, then into the computer. I've tried restarting them both at the same time, but it's still having the same issue?
  • Which is better the Iphone 5s or the 5c i'm trying to decide which one is better? And what's the difference between these two phones can someone tell me please? I'm trying to decide which one to buy?
  • What's the difference between a cheap router and a good router? Just wanted to know the difference between a cheap router and an expensive router, I know that is a very broad question, I'm just a bit confused on how a router works. Does it increase my Internet speed on multiple devices? I get 50Mb per second, Well at least that's what I pay for. I have a PS3 two iPhones and a tablet, as well as a desktop PC that is wireless. Can anyone recommend an excellent router under $150
