Which IPhone is better out of IPhone XR or IPhone XS Max?

I originally bought an IPhone XS Max for Christmas until the screen stopped working on the day the first day it was opened and had to send it back to Tesco mobile. My brother was bugging me to get the IPhone XR as he thinks it's better and less glitchy. What do you think?
Does anyone of you lot out there own any of these phones and can you tell me if you have had any problems using the IPhone XS Max if you own one please?

The XS Max is not "less glitchy" than the XR & vice versa as they both run the same iOS.

I own a XR. The XS Max was simply out of my price range (though I would have gone for the XS in any case since I prefer the size) but if you could get the XS Max at all it would be the one I would recommend.

Neither phone is more reliable than the other, you just got stuck with a random bad phone. The iPhone XR is a much better deal and would be hypothetically cheaper to repair when your warranty expires. The only real difference is the max has a very slightly bigger and higher resolution display. The Max also has a optical zoom camera, but the main camera most people use is the same as the XR. You are probably better off saving your money with the XR, but some people like the bigger size of the max.
