Which is the last version of iOS that i can have in iphone 3g?

I don't mind jailbreaking nor do i mind piracy. All i want to know wether i can update it to latest versions, cause most of the apps work in minimum iOS 5.

If you do jailbreak, which I don't know how to do. I'd imagine you could update to iOS6 okay, but a lot of the games and possibly some apps still may not run correctly since the iPhone 3G isn't as powerful as its successors.

The latest version APPLE updates to on the iPhone 3G is iOS 4.2.1
