Which mac or other laptop is best for me?
I want to buy a new laptop and its going to be used mainly for school work and usual documents but will also have to run some fairly tough program's such as games (assassins creed or call of duty etc.) and will need to run CAD software such as ProEngineer with ease. I need something which is easy to fit into a bag, I currently have a dell Inspiron laptop and its impossible to fit into a school bag with books.Il also use the laptop for Internet browsing, movie editing, and pretty normal other stuff. I would quite like to get a mac since I'm a big fan of apple products (ipad and iPhone owner) but am open to other suggestions such as if you recommend notebooks. Try to be reasonable with price but its not too much of a limiting factor as long as its not much more than £1200 ish.
Almost any mac that isn't over 1200 euros. They have good movie editing and can run games well. Internet browsing and other stuff works incredibly well on fairly old macs, at which point you can you can get a macbook pro at like 900 ish dollars. I don't know what the equivalency is from $ to euros but I think Euros is more.
Macbooks are the worst choice for your applications.
OSX operating system is incompatible to gaming. The CPU and graphics and ram for the price is dismally bad and from both operating system and performance is terrible for CAD.
Your problem is that laptops need cooling and cooling means thicker.
Maybe a 14 inch with a good graphics card and CPU would keep the size and weight down.
I think this is your best:

MSI GE40 2OC-024UK
£955.15 allows you to raise the warranty though it starts with 2 years manufacturer defects, you might want accidental damage coverage in a full warranty.
Intel Core™ i7-4702MQ Haswell Quad Core Processor

Scores passmark at over 8000
14.0" Full HD Screen << EXCELLENT! Perfect for CAD and gaming as 1080p
Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit << Live with it. You need it for cad and gaming
8GB DDR3 RAM < Sufficient, but may be upgraded. Probably 2x4GB and to raise it you need 2x8GB and sell two cards. It is typically a max in a 14"
750GB HDD 7200RPM << Big enough and is a higher speed
DVD Rewriter Nice to have
Dedicated GTX 760M 2GB Graphics VERY NICE for a laptop
At #57 on this chart:

USB3 | HDMI | Bluetooth << all you need and want.
2 Year MSI Warranty better than average
weighs 2kg. 23.9 x 33.9 x 2.9 cm
If attempting to compare to MacBook, the only thing that gets close is the 15 inch macbook pro.
Anything smaller is a netbook by comparison and not for your applications. You would add Windows to a MacPro 15 non-Retina

Start at £1, 499. The 2.6GHZ i7-3720QM option gets the CPU slightly faster, but the graphics way down at GT 650M. Dropping that from rank 57 to 75, so in this pair, the MSI is better still on gaming, though the cad might be 5% faster to process. Match up 8GB RAM, 750GB 7500 rpm HDD, 1080p display, and you are at £1, 919.02 for a system that is the same weight as the MSI, but:
24.7cm x 35.9 cm x1.8 cm so you get a thin profile, but a bigger footprint and screen diagonal.
You also need to raise your price to more than double to get a similar performance so drop that £1200 ish in favor of £1900 ish plus the cost of Windows if you want a system that does CAD and gaming.
You can browse Amazon and other stores, but Saveonlaptops has a good reputation and price set.
I would get an Asus Gaming or a Lenovo y500
Lenovo Y500 - http://shop.lenovo.com/...ries/y500/
Asus Gaming -http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/G75VW
