Which mobile devices do I buy?

My current android phone has a very low internal storage and doesn't receive mobile data even though it's in my plan so I'm looking to upgrade my device. Here's the problem though, I have a MacBook Pro so part of my digital life is already in the Apple ecosystem and I also have a Windows 8 desktop at home(there's no way in hell that I'm getting a Windows 8 phone) but I don't really use Windows 8 for much. I'd like to have all my digital stuff bundled up in one ecosystem but I'm also a bit strapped for money so that's another problem. Currently I'm on Virgin Mobile pre-paid(USA) and the only smart phone platforms they have are android & ios. An iphone 5s and 5c (16 GB) on Virgin Mobile (as of 31 May, 2014) cost $404.99 and $494.99, respectively. The Kyocera Hydro Vibe and the LG Volt are both phones that satisfy my functionality needs and cost $149.99 and $179.99, respectively.

I've basically been brought down to two choices, do I:

A.) go with one of the budget-friendly androids and buy an ipod so that I can have my all my Apple stuff with me as well

or

B.) dish out big money for the iphone and hand over my entire digital life over to Apple

I think you should go with option a if you can buy an ipod touch…

The thing is when you buy iphone they also hold their value, so you get alot more back when you trade it in. Apple is still giving $100 for iphone 4 on trade in, and $200 for 4S on trade in, so those that bought on contract are basically coming out ahead and if getting a new contract then it equals a free upgrade.

When you buy those other phones, they are worth nothing after a couple years. Doesn't VM have a contract deal where you can buy on contract? I think thats the best way to do it.
