I have an iPhone 5 and I can say from my experience that it is a great phone whereas my father has the SG4 and it is also a good phone. I would much rather prefer the iPhone 5 because I feel as if the SG4 is a bit too thin for my taste. But aside from that, both are great phones.
Both are good phones. One has small screen with no hardware upgrade last 3 yrs(iphn). Another has big screen with best hardware. Iphn has io.s operating system which is best.

Let's wait for the iPhone 5S and then we will see. Because iPhone 5 is a 2012 phone, and S4 is 2013. Wait for the 5S.
Samsung Galaxy, in my opinion.
The Android platform in general is much less limiting. Apple denies you the ability to download anything that they don't approve, and they only approve things that don't compete with their own products. For example, if you wanted to download Google Chrome to replace the default browser (Safari) on your iPhone? Too bad. If you want to do it on a Droid? Just search the App Store for "Chrome".
The iPhone's camera is also much lower quality than the S4's. The S4 has 13 megapixels of resolution, wheras the iPhone has only eight, which is still great for a phone's camera, but 13 is an industry best.
The Galaxy is faster, too, just from the ones I've used. It has a 1.9 GHz processer, and I believe the iPhone has a 1.7.
I've heard that the Galaxy also includes a feature that's like Siri, but it's automatic. It learns from your habits. For example, if it notices that you set an alarm for 6:25 every morning, it might cancel it for you on the weekend, but set an extra one five minutes earlier during the weekdays. If you eat at a particular restaurant every Friday, it will ask you if you want to make reservations. It's supposed to be really cool, but not owning one myself, I don't speak from experience, just from what friends have told me.
All in all, the iPhone 5 is a terrific phone, but it's not on par with the Galaxy. Galaxy all the way, no question about it.
