Who knows anything about music technology/music making computer software?
So I basically made a few different iPhone recordings; Voice, two guitar riffs, piano. And I would love to put them all together, I want to make music! Anyone have any idea of safe, preferably free (super broke) music technology software I can download? To mix, add, mess around with different sounds and tracks?
Fruity loops
For free, you can use Audacity. It is not so much a music editor, as it is a sound editor, and you work with finished wave files, but you can copy, paste and delete portions of the file, you can save your wave file, or play it back through your speakers. You see on the screen the wave function, not the musical notation, making it more difficult to locate specific spots in your recording, relying strictly on your ears to listen to the recording as you would a CD. (edit: Did I mention that Audacity is totally free?)
To compose music using sheet music notation, I would recommend Noteworthy. It is not free, but it is amazing. You can enter music notes directly on a sheet of music, with staff, bass/treble clef signs, and any other kind of music notation that you would use in sheet music or on a midi synthesizer. You can input music from you computer keyboard, from a. MID file, or from a midi synthesizer. You can output the music to a. MID file, a MIDI synthesizer, or the speakers (i.e.play back your composition as you go whenever you want.) I'm not a composer, but I have used Noteworthy to enter music from the sheet music, and just as with a midi synthesizer, you can select the instrumentation for each staff, and even change the instrument 1/'2 way through the composition.
I've included both URLs below.
