Why are Apple products overpriced? - 1

I do like Apple and their products, but I think that they are pretty overpriced for being as simple to use as they are. I'm gonna get an iPhone 7 Plus soon and I loved my 7 plus I had before, but I just don't understand why Apple products are so expensive. I know part of it has to do with marketing and quality but what else makes Apple products expensive?

You answered your own question.

"being as simple to use": There's a LOT of work, intellectual property, investment, design and engineering that puts all the parts together (whether designed for their product or usable in others) and make the software do what it does for you to think it is "simple to use".

Yes, there's marketing, build-quality and all that but when a product is newly released there's the tear-down… And the components are not very expensive… Putting them together the right way and making the software intuitive - simple to use - THAT has value.

Another example of "really complex but simple to use" is the process of making a cell phone call… And all the steps that start when you turn the phone on and register as a valid user on your service provider's system, entering the phone number of the person you are calling, pressing send, locating the phone on the other side of the call (domestic or international) and completing the call - sometimes on a different system (different service provider) or even different technology (LTE, CDMA, GSM/EDGE, wireline, finer, VoIP, etc… And another bazillion steps between all that… Not Apple specific, just another example of of simple to use masking the complexity in the background…

Mmm J has given a good answer. Another Really important point is that they sell at a price people are prepared to pay. If something sells in truckloads for, say, $500 and the company can sell all it can make then they're not going to reduce the price to $300.

Successful marketing isn't cheap. A large percentage (over half) of the cost of the device is marketing.

I have to say up front that
I Do Not own any Apple products, nor have I Ever owned any
(other than a USB charger that I found but don't use),
nor do I know When or If I might ever buy one.

Now…
Apple products are Not "overpriced" per se.

You have to Qualify such a statement with Facts.

Apple products are generally of higher quality than many others,
which alone might justify a higher price.

More R&D goes into them than most other products,
again adding to their cost.

They tend to perform well, which other products may also do,
but there's a certain "feel" to Apple products that,
like a fine car, make them enjoyable to operate.

Of course, there are people who don't like how Apple products operate.
For them there are other choices available.

Apple sells a Lot of merchandise for what You consider to be high prices.
Obviously, the people who buy them see good value in Apple products.
You may not, and If not, then You don't Have to Buy any.

Apple products are perhaps 20% more expensive than other brands. For that, you get.

Leading edge ndustrial design. Others usually follow Apples form factors, and usually the displays and interfaces are state of the art.

Materials and construction. Instead of cheap plastic, most Apple products are CNC milled out of a solid billet of aluminum or stainless steel and covered in glass.

Support. Software updates are on time and for much longer than other products. Most warranty work is often done by replacement, no questions asked rather than being on the phone to customer support in Mumbai.

Good resale value. Typically more than the difference you paid over the cheaper product.

Is there people who pay? Why should they reduce the price? It'd be stupid, if you can earn more, why should you earn less?

I've only owned 2 products the 1st gen IPAD and then 4th gen IPAD. I've never had any problems with either, although I didn't really use my 1st gen that much, just because it was a bit slow. I only used it in-house when not sitting at the desktop. My 4th gen, I use every day even though I leave it in my room. I don't leave my stuff lying around for nieces and nephews to take it and possibly break it. My sister lets my niece play with her 2nd gen and she shattered the screen, currently, no one knows where it is.

It is what it is. Its fassionable, its cool, its easy to use

  • Why the hate on Apple products? It's just ridiculous of what people say, honestly they're excellent solid products and make some of the best technology out there on the market. Especially iPhones, iPods, Macs, MacBooks, etc.
  • Why does apple products take so long to ship? My friend order the new iphone 5 yesterday and it said 3-4 weeks and when I order the new ipod touch today it said it should come in by Nov 26-28. I mean is this true if it is then it takes way to long to get the apple products. We live in Atlanta
  • Why do people like apple products so much? I got a samsung galaxy 3 and my friends said I should have got the iphone 5. My phone is clearly better but everyone keeps saying apple products are better. What kind of idiots camp out infront of a store everytime a new apple product is released? I don't see what's so great about them.
  • Why can't you use adobe flash on apple products? I love my iPhone and iPad but when it comes to getting an actual computer/laptop I want NO limits! And I'm having trouble viewing Rachael ray cooking videos from my iPad bc they use adobe flash… How can I get around this problem? Or can I simply not watch her videos or any others using adobe?
