Why are electronics so short lived?

You buy a cell phone and by the time 18 months are up you're ready to upgrade. You buy a computer and within 2-3 years it's completely outdated. You buy a tv and a few years later it's a dinosaur. The main reason I like to buy Apple products is because they seem to have a longer "shelf life" just because one manufacturer alone can only churn stuff out so often. The iPhone 4s came out in 2011 and it's still being made and sold which (sadly) is a pretty outstanding achievement in today's tech world.

Electronics are so short-lived in today's society because with all of the technological advances, things of the now quickly become a thing of the past.

I used my last iphone 3 years, and it was still worth quite a bit when I sold it, so the new upgrade on contract didn't cost me hardly anything. Technology evolves fast.

It's not called "electronics" anymore. The new terminology is "technology." lol. Don't worry. I'm just as lost as you are.

Isn't it a positive sign for tech lovers.

It's done for a reason. The makers and suppliers want to have a ready supply of customers. Making something that is going to get "old" really soon is what they want. Kids now want a new Smartphone that I think retails for $599.

In our day, most items were made to last. My Singer machine is a 1957 model!

Because new components and new technology are always coming out. But just because that's the case, that doesn't mean you need to upgrade your phone every 18 months or upgrade your PC every 2-3 years.

It depends on using style…
heat is an important enemy… Keep them cool.
do not tire a device… Give it a break…

New, and "better", models keep people in work, and major company share (stock) holders happy, by feeding a society which has been brainwashed into ever wanting more.

  • Would you find it very weird if someone lived in a '90s style? His car is from the '90s, all his objects and clothes are from the '90s, his electronics are so '90s, and he only read Newspapers. He only has an iPhone to get in touch with his parents and for emergencies, but he most of the time uses a phone plugged in a wall.
  • Why is there such little memory in electronics? You would think by now there would be more than just a 16, 32 and 64gb option for most devices. Considering 64gb can fit into a small SD card why can't an iphone have a couple hundred gb of memory in it. Or an ipad as well. It doesn't make any sense.
  • Why is my iphone battery so short? It's new? I bought an iPhone 5c a few days ago and I noticed that the battery life was short… While using I'd probably get 2-3 hours max on it
  • Why does everybody on electronics? Like every where i go everyone is on there phone, especially girls on Facebook and Instagram like can you not be *** glued to your iPhone - via iPhone.
