Why can't I connect to my router?

My internet speed is 40/20Mbps. I have got a TP-LINK TL-WR740N. If I set the wireless to N mode, I can't connect to my router with my laptop and my iPhone can't connect either (both are supporting B/G/N). Router works only in G mode, but in G mode I get only 20/20Mbps. What should I do? I already tried installing DD WRT firmware but I can't get the whole internet speed with this firmware, and neither with the factory firmware.
Sorry for my English.

Added (1). I'm learning in an IT school but I can't figure out what the problem is.

Leave b/g/n mode in auto if option available, then look for channel selection, usually under the wan tab, usually set up to auto by default, try setting channel 1 or 6 or 11 since they do not overlap. Try connecting your devices with those 3 different settings. My daughter's laptop(mac) only "likes" channel 11. Also select forget those networks in both devices and try to connect as a new network when going through this settings changes. Also use wpa2-psk encryption for your password, its recommended… Good luck

  • Why can't my desktop connect to our Wi-Fi at home but does connect to moble hotspot? Suddenly my desktop won't connect to our Wi-Fi. All other devices such as laptops, phones and tablets connects just fine. I tried connecting it to my iphone's hotspot and it works. I tried to unistall and reinstall the wireless adapter but still won't work. I also tried to reboot the router and even tried to change the channel but still failed to make it work. Do you have any other way to make it work? I have windows 7 on my desktop.
  • What's the difference between a cheap router and a good router? Just wanted to know the difference between a cheap router and an expensive router, I know that is a very broad question, I'm just a bit confused on how a router works. Does it increase my Internet speed on multiple devices? I get 50Mb per second, Well at least that's what I pay for. I have a PS3 two iPhones and a tablet, as well as a desktop PC that is wireless. Can anyone recommend an excellent router under $150
