Why can't I get iOS 8 on my iPhone 4s?
I have the iPhone 4s and when I go to my settings and click general then go to the software update there's the download and install button but it's gray making me unable to download it. Is there a reason for this? How can I download it?
Hi. There are articles stating the reasons that you should not download the ios 8 on a 4s. One reason was that the software is suitable for larger phones. A second article of the same type reads that the ios 8 software requires power/space that the 4s does not have. I'm sticking with the ios 7 for my 4s. You can get a 5s with the 4s trade in for just signing a 2 year contract at Radio Shack/Costco and some others. Check with your provider to see if they have the same deal. Otherwise, I'm sticking with the ios 7 for my 4s. My husband has ordered the iPhone 6 Plus. I will get his 5s. 5s has installed the ios 8 with the exception of two apps. One app not installed is the finger print ID. If I can't get credit on my bill for the 4s, I will sell it. I expect that the 4s will remain as it is for a time then become obsolete as has the iPhone 4.
It doesn't appear to be worth the effort.

I don't know if your iPhone 4s is jailbroken or not but if it is, then the jailbreak process disables the OTA update process. If you really want to get iOS 8, I suggest you don't, you might want to download it onto your computer and update your phone through iTunes.
Just make sure to back up your data because most big updates wipe out everything on your device.
