Why can't I send or receive SMS on my iphone?

I have an iPhone 5c. Recently the service was restored but now I can't send or receive text messages. I've tried everything on the website.

Why won't my iPhone let me send an SMS message? My father recently got an android after having an iPhone. My iPhone won't let me send him an SMS message. It only tries to send an iMessage. I DO have my SMS message setting turned on, so I don't understand why this is a problem.
Why do iPhones take so long to send images via sms? I'm trying to send a photo to my friend on text message on my iphone and it's taking for ever why does it do this? And is there any settings that need changing to make it send much quicker? It's a disgrace to be honest so would like to know how to send it much quicker.
Why can't my iPhone receive SMS messages on 3G? I have a 3GS which has just started having issues with 3G connection. It refuses to receive SMS messages, but I'm able to send them. I have tried to reset network settings, turn off iMessage, restart numerous times to no avail. The only way I can make it work is to turn off 3G, turn the phone off and on which allows SMS to be received. Am I missing something obvious as to why it's having a mini meltdown?
Why are my SMS messages taking years to send? But iMessages are perfectly fine? So IIm texting my friend with iMessage ( we both have iPhones ) and I just started texting someone who doesn't have an iPhone and when I try to send them a message it ll take so long and it ll even say message failed it bugs like what the heck sprint.
