Maybe that is why Apple discontinued the iPhone 5 so quickly, replacing it with the 5S/5C.
The best answer is that so every year you will buy the new iphone. If you keep buying the latest o their products, they will keep making more money and they will stay at the top of the game with Samsung and stay in business.
There's no such thing as a 720p display. That term is used to describe the number of horizontal rows of pixels in video material. Semi HD is 1280x720 pixels. Blu-ray is 1920x1080 pixels.
The iPhone 5 has a Retina display, which is all the resolution needed for normal viewing distances. Increasing the resolution would not increase the quality of the image, because the number of pixels is already higher than you can see with human vision.
On an iPhone 5, material of higher resolution will be reinterpolated to fit the screen. Since the phone has a Retina screen, you won't be able to see the difference at normal viewing distances, anyway.
The 5S and 5C have the same resolution as the 5.
