Not true. I own an iPhone 6 and I have not felt the need nor the want to upgrade my phone. Not to mention that I'm abit of an apple fan myself.

They think it's cool or maybe they can afford it.

Hmm. I'm a boy. In addition to the couple of Windows and Linux machines, I have a couple of iMacs, a few iPads, and an iPhone 6s. I guess I'm a "fanboy". My last iPhone was a 4s. I wait every two years…

But I suspect the reason for upgrading is the same for Android fanboys. Or not. I like Athena's response about affordability.

They want to stay top of the line so that they can have the lateest and greatest product from a popular company. Maybe they feel more popular or important having the brand new phone.

Hummm pretty simple really, they upgrade to the newest device, because they can. But the true fanboy pays for their new devices, full price up front. The wannabes can only pay monthly, so tend to get in on the act long after the true fanboys have had their phones for 6 to 8 months.

Oh and fanboys, don't show off their phones, in fact most people won't even know they have them, but the wannabes, are always showing off their devices to the point of OOPS my screen is broken, what do I do now?

Phones, cars, watches, eyewear - people will spend on what they want and what they can afford. No business of yours unless you are jealous. You would flip out if you knew what I have spent on musical instruments, recirdings, and other music equipment over the course of my career. But nobidy cares about YOUR opinion.
