Why do i not get notifications on my school's Wi-Fi?

I usually get facebook notifications, snapchat notifications etc but when i'm connected to my school's Wi-Fi i don't get these. I see that people who have iPhones do get notifications but i don't get them on my Samsung Galaxy S4, why is this and how do I fix this?

I would guess the school's Wi-Fi is blocking access to Facebook etc. (as most schools do) but the iPhones are connecting to their mobile network carrier.

Well, maybe Wi-Fi connection is slow, or the connection is blocking those site/apps. Got to the store where you both your phone and tell what's your problem.

And there's no notification on the FaceTime app or phone app but in settings it says notifications are on.
