Why do other people look fine in selfies i don't?

Hey all so i see a lot of people taking selfies like hold their iphone on armalenght and taking a pic of thenaelves but when i do it i look 100 times uglier theb when i look in the mirror or take a mirror shot and other people look the same in the picture like when i'm at school in the bathroom i had friends standing in front of mirror and they looked normal and i did also in that mirror but why don't they get distortion with a selfie and i do ny head becomes bigger and longer my nose standa out more and my hair gets very ugly i'm a man and i got iphone4s front side camera and back side make me look weird while holding armslenght sefie

Practice different camera/head positions. If you have bifocals, look at the camera through the top of the bifocal, not the bottom. The camera won't look as sharp to you, but you'll probably look better to the camera.

You are INCREDIBLY sloppy and careless about your writing and spelling. I would imagine that could be an indication of your overall personality.

If you are just as careless about other aspects of your life - such as your camera techniques - then it only stands to reason that you have less success than others who actually make some sort of effort in their endeavours.

Try doing a bit of research and learning and MAKE AN EFFORT. You'll love the results.

Aren't those iphone camera lenses rather wide? As in wide enough to take a shot of a bridge.

The problem with wider lenses is that if they are used on close up shots that things tend to warp. In your case you might end up with severe pincushioning. What is that? Well you know what a pincushion is right.okay you know what a cushion is right. As you notice the middle is closer by then the siders. And the tips are the furthest away.

Pincushioning is not something you notice very strongly if something is far away. Like a bridge. But things close are more obvious distorted. Like a carny show mirror house.

To make distortion less use whatever zoom the Iphone4 has to offer. And things should straighten out. Hell even a 2x digital zoom should already make the cushioning effect quite less. That way you end up with straighter lines.

So that is your problem your camera is optimized for street shooting. It is a wide lens setup, nice and wide. But this does distorts things. On long range subjects, like a bridge you won't see that. But if you do a selfie well. You just found one of the weaknesses of the lens. Take enough distance from the lens and it should be better.

Two things are going on here:
1. Taking a picture at arms length guarantees you'll have an ugly image due to perspective distortion. Cure is to get 8 feet, or more, distance between you and the camera.

2. You probably won't ever be happy with a shot of yourself. People tend to judge portraits of themselves much harsher, looking for every flaw. Cure, don't take pictures of yourself. Go out and do something interesting.
