Why do some people think the 2000s was all technifed?

If you really think about it, most of the high tech we have now wasn't around for all/most of the decade.

Now today, we have all that high tech, but there are a few things that are no longer being used, but I'm wondering is there a reason why some people think the 00s had all that tech when mostly it didn't?

Most people will refer to the late 90's as the computer era.
