Why does my data have to be on in order for me to send a picture on my iphone?

I just recently got a new iphone 4.It has the iOS 6 software. For some reason I can't send pictures to my family (who also have iphones) through Wi-Fi. I must have my 4G data on in order for the pictures to send. Is there any way to fix this? My dad who has the same exact phone is able to do this, but I can't. I really don't understand why.

You connected to a Wi-Fi network? In settings "wi-fi" does it have a network name in blue?

How are you trying to send these pictures? Messaging, email… Some other way?

  • Why won't my iPhone send picture messages? I have an iPhone 4 and every time I try to send pictures it gets to where the sent bar is almost full, then it just stops and won't send. What do I do? I've tried restarting my phone and it didn't do anything. It is on my plan though. I just sent a picture message yesterday but now it's f*cking up.

  • Why can't I send picture messages with my iPhone to other phones? I can only send picture messages to other people with iPhones but not to anyone that has any other type of phone. I have the 4S and I have my MMS/SMS switch on. What's the problem?
  • Why can't I send picture messages to people who don't have iphones? I have an iPhone 4 and whenever I try to send pics to ppl who don't have an iphone, it fails. I have data on, 3G on SMS on and MMS messaging on and they still don't send. The pictures are also not in HDR when I take them. Is it because some people who I'm sending them to don't have smartphones? I have everything on that's supposed to be on so I don't understand why they won't send.
