Why Does My External Microphone Amplify Audio on an iPhone, Instead of record it?

I just bought a GLS Audio 6-Feet Cable 1/8-Inch TRS Stereo to XLR Female - 6' Cables 3.5mm Mini to XLR-F Cord for iPhone/iPod/Computer and more - Single for a Pyle-Pro PDMIC58 Professional Moving Coil Dynamic Handheld Microphone
Pyle (103) for an iPhone. I have been wanting to use this setup so as to record audio in Voice Memos for an independent film. But the microphone in that application and others-in Music, say, -for a reason I can't comprehend, will only act as an amplifier. I would like to sincerely thank in advance those who can explain why this is so.

Regards,
Kurt James Cassidy-Gabhart.

All standard (stereo) jack plugs and there respective sockets are 3 pole…

The jack sockets in your apple products use a single port for both line in and line out… ( 4 pole )

If you use a standard 3 pole jack plug you can only get line out (Audio out).

Sorry.

You will require a "4 pole adapter" to use the line-in / Mic function on your apple devices.

Make sure the purchased adapter terminates at " independent" 3.5 mm 3 pole jack sockets for connection to mic and ear plugs, so you single out and utilise the mic-in.

( Note… A normal Audio splitter (2x line -out) is not the correct product )

  • Why won't my iPhone record audio when I take a video? Every time I try to record a video with my iPhone it won't pick up the audio. All I here is this static noise. Sometimes I can barley hear my voice behind all the static. It just randomly started happening. When I record in voice memo it picks up my voice just fine. Phone calls work fine too. It just doesn't work when I try to take a video.
  • What's the best app to download to amplify sound? I'm hard of hearing but not so much that I have a hearing aid. I'll be going back to college soon and would like to know if there's a good cheap or free app for the iphone that I can download to help me hear my instructors. All I've found so far are hearing test apps.
  • What is the best external microphone for a iphone? I want to start podcasting using my iphone. I think its better to buy a little microphone. Does anyone know which one is best?
  • Is it possible that a 3G 2100Mhz repeater is also able to amplify LTE signals in the same frequency? To all engineers out there, is it possible for repeaters rated for 2100mHz 3G is also able to amplify LTE signals under the same frequency? My iPhone cycles through LTE and 3G when the repeater is on, while it switches to "No Service" when the repeater is unplugged.
