Why does my iPhone say insufficient remaining credit?
I was playing the game of life on my iPhone 7 and I have $21.13 in credit. I was going to buy the season pass for $19.99 so I have more than what I need. But I tried redeeming and it said I had insufficient remaining credit. I tried to restart the phone, log in and out of iTunes, and delete and redownload the game of life. But it still didn't work. And I can't contact hasbro about this. There's no Q&A. Do any of you know how to fix this?
I don't know where you live (or what ZIP code is on your AppleID), but ALL MAJOR ONLINE MARKETPLACES (Amazon, Steam, Nintendo eShop, Playstation Store, Microsoft Store, iTunes Store, Google Play Store, ect.) are REQUIRED BY LAW to collect SALES TAX BASED ON YOUR LOCATION.
THIS STARTED AS OF THIS YEAR (Jan. 1, 2019) FOR ALL ONLINE BUSINESSES that have sales over $100,000 / yr. (the exact threshold may vary by state, but this is a general rule of thumb). The sales tax in 45 states that charge it (there are only 5 states that don't collect sales tax) varies from 2.9% (in CO) up to 8.25% (in CA). If local / county sales taxes are enforced as well, it can increase the overall sales tax rate up to 10% (in LA).
Using Iowa, for example (as I'm more experienced with it). The state sales tax rate is 6% & the majority of counties have a 1% sales tax rate (dedicated to the public school system), for a combined total of 7%. For that "Season Pass", which is priced at $19.99 (or roughly $20), there would be $1.40 in sales tax, bring the grand total to $21.39… Which would exceed the funds noted in your account (granted by only 26 cents) & would require you to add more funds to the account.
Check your Apple ID profile & see what zip code you have listed there (making sure it's correct). With a little searching online, you can figure out what the total sales tax rate for you. If it's over 5.65%, you'll have to add more funds to your account. This is something that Apple is LEGALLY REQUIRED TO ENFORCE, so there's very little workaround on this since online stores generally have to use the BILLING ADDRESS related to the credit or debit card for the purchase (if an item has to be shipped, they may charge based on the shipping address if it's different than the billing address).
I know this isn't the answer you really wanted to hear, but it's the harsh truth that you & everybody else in the US has to live with.
