Why does the iPhone 5 have such slow Wi-Fi speeds?

I got a brand new iphone 5 a couple weeks ago and I have noticed that the Wi-Fi speeds are very slow! I began to compare it to my 3rd generation iPod touch. It took the iPhone 5 over 4 minutes and the iPod about 50 seconds to download the same song over Wi-Fi. It's the same for apps, the iPhone 5 is much slower than the iPod. It's so bad that I can't even really watch a video off of YouTube or Netflix on the iPhone 5 because it constantly stops and loads every 6 seconds or so while the iPod is loaded far in advance. The 3G/4g/LTE speeds are ridiculously fast though. Why is it that the Wi-Fi speed is so slow on the iPhone 5 when it is pretty fast on the iPod and every other device on the network?

Did you update iOS on your iphone5? IOS update 6.0.2 supposed to fix that issue.

I had the same problem. This actually, in many cases, is a hardware issue which Apple can fix with a replacement. You can take your phone to an Apple Store and they'll check it out and grant you a replacement.

Before you take it in, I advise starting from scratch to see if that will fix the issue. Restore your phone (NOT from a backup though, because that could bring back the software issue) and see if that fixes the issue. If not, Apple Store is all I can think of.

  • Will T-Mobile have 4G speeds for iPhone 5? T-Mobile will be selling the iPhone 5 starting April 12th, does that mean that us current T-Mobile iPhone 5 users will start getting 4G LTE coverage?   • Why does the FBI have such a hard time cracking iPhone encryption. Why don't they just use the spy agencie's methods of using spyware? All you need is their phone number, and a cheap piece of software and you have access to everything on the phone (including deleted info) Why make a huge scene about it, when there are much easier ways to bypass lock screen encryption? You don't even need access to the phone, it can remotely install with just one phone call to the number too… Just saying, if the FBI really wanted in, it would be very easy
  • Why does my video have such bad video quality? I uploaded my video to the computer and it had great video quality, then I uploaded it to Facebook and YouTube and It looked horrible. It there anything I can do to change that? Save it a different way or something? I see all these YouTube videos that have been filmed by iPhone's and they have great quality. Shouldn't my 14mp camera have even better!
