Why don't stores have Wi-Fi for iphones?

They have like 40-50 networks in walmart but every single one of them needs a password to get in. And there can be only 1 or 2 bars if you are lucky in the store. How come they get to get away with it

Added (1). Why does mcdonalds have free Wi-Fi but not walmart

What do you mean get away with it. Wi-Fi is not a right I'm a business owner and I pay a lot of money per month they have Wi-Fi in my business and besides why do you need Wi-Fi Walmart for shopping. They probably pay for low bandwidth because the Wi-Fi is expensive.

So you think walmart has free Wi-Fi except for iPhones then?

I guess you will just have to hang out at McDonalds for their free Wi-Fi, right.

Wi-Fi is not unlimited.

It is also not free.

For example if someone pays for a 3 Mbps DSL Internet connection, they get 3 Mbps.

This Internet connection bandwidth is shared by their entire LAN via the wireless router.

If you use their Wi-Fi and consume 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves a paltry 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the Wi-Fi network.

If 100 people in a store like Walmart connected to the Wi-Fi, the connection would slow to a unusable level.

For this reason most people set up wireless security on their wireless router requiring a password to connect. So people like you don't leach off of their connection.

Even if you find a business that provides "free" subsidized Wi-Fi.

It is a bad idea to send any confidential information such as online banking, credit card purchases, etc.through a open connection. You have no control over where that data is going or who is looking at it.

Best idea is to set up your own secured wireless network and Internet connection. I use a Verizon mobile hotspot when I'm away from my high speed cable Internet connection at home.

They probably don't want a bunch of kids hanging out in their store using their internet and not buying anything.
