Why is my internet not working

Okay guys I new help, I have no idea what to do anymore. I have a netgear WPN824.It says I'm connected to the Internet but when I try to go to any site, it says "DNS look up failed" I tried everything to completely resetting netgear to unplugging, wait 30 sec. Then plugging t back in. Nothing.

The thing I noticed though, is that it keeps on giving my the wrong ip address. Like before when it use to work, it would be 192.168.1.X but now it says it's 192.168.16.X, and when it changes to the wrong one, my Internet goes down with it, and i checked that the internet protocol version 4 is set to get ip address automatically, but it still happens. And when I restart my computer. It gives my the right ip address, then after 5 min. It changes to the wrong one. And this is not only on my desktop. My iPhone and laptop also get te wrong ip,

P.S i'm sorry, its actually my DNS server that is changing, my ip is fine. Ex. My ipv4 address is 192.168.16.X instead of 192.168.1.X

Could be a multitude of things, I would check your proxies first.
Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings.

You most likely are not using a proxy server. Ensure your settings mirror the above, especially the "Use a proxy server… " setting.

One other possability: When you say you can connect to the LAN or wireless connection fine, I must assume you are using a router with wireless capabilities.

Just because you can establish a connection to your router, does not mean that router has a gateway to the internet. The router is simply used to create a network for file, printer, and internet sharing. It is totally possible to use the router strictly for networking purposes and not for internet sharing.

That being said, I would ensure the cable/dsl modem is securely connected to the router. Also try power cycling both devices. Check the lights on the modem, typically they give a status. Mine has a POWER, ETHERNET, DSL, INTERNET, and ACTIVITY light. Green typically means status is functional, red means it is not.

When my ISP is down, the DSL light will be flashing red. It is time to call your ISPs tech support if that is the case. Check all your connections to be secure and power cycle everything first, your ISP will ask you to do this as soon as you call them, and it does resolve alot of problems quickly.

There's always the possibility of them having an outage.

General rule is always check the physical layer first, which is cabling and hardware. Make sure it's on and plugged in. Then try rebooting it all.

If you can't get it back up after trying these things, your ISP will be able to assist you. They know your equiptment and will be able to determine your problem and provide assistance.
