The battery is bad.
Old battery.
Damaged /dirty charging port.
Damaged charging cable.
Using the wrong power adapter to charge the phone.
Charging on USB port on a computer.
The battery could have gone bad as it is an older phone. Apple will no longer replace the battery for you so, I would recommend either buying a used iPhone 5S as a replacement or replacing the battery yourself. You can buy replacement batteries and the tools needed to replace the battery off of Amazon or eBay. It could also be a bad charger so I would recommend trying a different charger as well.
