Why is my paypal saying I have available balance?

I haven't used my paypal in awhile. I logged on last month and was surprised to see PAYPAL BALANCE: $158.14 USD (Currency Converter). I was like " oh crap I got money! So I spent $50 and bought some boots online. I downloaded the app for the iPhone and everytime I log in, it shows $0 BALANCE. But when I go on my Safari browser and log in, it says PAYPAL BALANCE: $120.53 USD (currency conv.)
AVAILABLE BALANCE IN USD (primary): $0.00 USD
TOTAL BALANCE (all currencies, available and pending) CONVERTED TO USD: $120.53

I'm so confused. Is this money that I have? Or did I just spend money I DID NOT HAVE? Please explain it to me.
