Why is the Wi-Fi switch on my iPhone grayed out?

I know this question has been asked many times, but I need a clear answer
I got an iPhone 4S. My dad bought it December last year. He bought in an apple store in Australia and we live in a different country.
Alot of people said it is something to do with the new IOS 6 but I downloaded that a long time ago and haven't done any updates in a while. Yesterday, I was trying to connect my iPhone to our home Wi-Fi and it couldn't find it. All the other devises in my home had Internet connection. So I turned my phone off and back on. And the Wi-Fi switch was greyed out or dimmed, as in I can't turn it on and off, I've tried turning the devise on and off. Tried turning the do not disturb and airplane mode on and off, tried reseting networking and I really don't want to go to an apple store now… Any ideas?

  • Would I be able to switch carriers without having to switch phones? I'm with Consumer Cellular and I have an iPhone SE, but I'm thinking of switching carriers so that I can get unlimited data. I don't want to get a new phone because I've had my current one about six months, I really like it, and it works great. I'm not locked into a contract with Consumer Cellular. Would I be able to switch to another carrier without having to purchase a new phone?

  • Unlocked iPhone 4 says no Wi-Fi, grayed out I have an unlocked iPhone 4. I'm not sure if it's factory unlocked or if someone did it. Well the Wi-Fi doesn't work and says "no Wi-Fi" and is grayed out. Is there any solution to this without having to reset my iPhone because I don't want to lose all my data or make it relocked.
  • My Wi-Fi is grayed out on my iphone I can't turn my Wi-Fi on because it won't let me:\ I've tried resetting network settings and almost everything else recommended online… Does anyone know how I can fix it? I haven't tried restoring it yet but if I don't find a way to fix it i might have to. And no, I don't want to take it to Apple to get it looked at or fixed, it would be too expensive.
