Why is windows 8.1 suddenly not detecting my iphone 5?

I bought a new HP laptop with windows 8.1 I installed iTunes and all that.
I plugged in my iPhone and it said click trust on phone to continue so I did that and it worked fine.
soon after my laptop died while I was on iTunes when I went back on my laptop it was frozen eventually I could exit iTunes but then as I plugged my phone in. A notification came up can't detect item then it started saying there must be something wrong with your device although there's nothing wrong with my phone.
I need to able to use my phone on iTunes please explain easily I will rate 5 STARS for best answer!

I'm not good with technology but there should not be a problem, did you charge your new laptop before using it? It usually need to be charged for 8 hours before using. For your iPhone, just retry.sometimes it takes a while.

just try restarting your laptop (if you haven't already) and reinstall iTunes. Also restart your iPhone or do a hard reset by holding down the lock and home button at the same time (nothing will be deleted)
