Why isn't my belkin wireless router working?

I just bought a belkin wireless router (type wpa/wpa2) and I can't seem to get it to work. I activated it on my ipod as well as my iphone and laptop, but nothing is working. When I set it up, the light that said "modem" under it was red even though I connected it to the modem already.

Did it come with an installation disc?

if you type in 192.168.1.1 what happens?

You need to configure your router
using any type of browser type the default ip of the router it is usually 192.168.0.1
look at the user's manual to determine the default ip of your router
then you will need to choose your internet type
if you have a broadband connection you will have to choose it and enter your username and password that your ISP have provided to you
if it was a ADSL connection then choose the DHCP or dynamic
apply theses changes and your done

P.S: configuring a router depends on its firmware and on its model

Log into the router from the computer it is connected to wirelessly.

Enter IP address 192.168.2.1 into the browser. Look at the top right corner of the webpage that comes up to see if the router thinks it connected to the Internet. You should see "Connected" in either green or blue letters. If you don't see "Connected," then soft-reset the modem you got from your cable company.

If your IPod or laptop etc can't connect to the router, then you need to set the securit settings.

But most modems (not router), need to be soft-reset when you change devices or add new devices to it.

In settings it says that I have got the network and am logged in but in the top left hand corner it shows the mobile data symbol not the normal Wi-Fi one.
