Why would you buy an iphone over an android?
I don't see how you could say iphone is better than android. Please give me a few reasons why iphone would be better.

The phones are built better. Have better performance, app selection, media selection, wouldn't have to wait forever for my specific iPhone to get updates once they are released, etc.
Explains in a package why the iPhone 5 is the best selling smartphone today.
Apple builds its own software and hardware,
it has more and better apps than Android.
If it wasn't for that new Jelly Bean, Android would've still being garbage.
Simple User Interface, great app selection, pretty much immune to computer viruses ( unless you jailbreak) because of unix.

Unless you have a Nexus device, then the only reason why iOS is better than Android in terms of software is the updates. Apple constantly updates their devices while non-Nexus devices have to wait for a while before an update is pushed for their device.
Other than that, build quality is also another addition to why the iPhone is better than Android.
However, I wouldn't say that app selection is a reason why iOS is better than Android anymore since Android has pretty much caught up to iOS in terms of apps availability.
Next, please don't include viruses in the topic of why iOS is better than Android since most of the viruses come from illegal black markets for Android apps. In reality, only 0.5% of Android malware comes from the Play Store. This is pretty much on par with Apple's App Store.
Next, there are a lot of accessories available for every Apple device in online retailers or regular retailers like Target, Walmart, Staples, etc. Android doesn't really have that kind of influence (unless you include the Galaxy S III).
Also, Apple has a better music availability thanks to iTunes while Android doesn't have a robust music selection yet.

- Why are people so gullible that they would buy an iPhone instead of an Android phone? Android handsets are generally far superior to iPhones. Why on earth would anybody choose to buy the more expensive iPhone over the less expensive, more powerful and technologically advanced Android handsets?
