Wi-Fi signal strength.am I missing something?

I have a Linksys router in the middle of my apartment up on a high shelf and my Wi-Fi is working fine. I'm back in my bedroom right now on my laptop typing this question online. My laptop is showing that I have 4 out of 5 bars signal strength. Now, inches away my iPhone is sitting on my desk and it barely can hold 1 bar of signal and keeps popping in and out of 3G data usage. Why are these two devices picking up the same signal So differently? I'm frustrated. Is there some setting in my iPhone I should check?

Added (1). Aleks- your answer is pointless dipsh*t. I'm aware my iPhone isn't connecting… That's the point of my question. When I lose my signal it goes into 3G mode… The 3G quality in my area is fine. I'm just wondering WHY my computer is picking it up so strongle but my phone isn't.

Your computer could be drawing extra bandwidth from the router if it is a less powerful one. Usually the more expensive the router the better bandwidth it will have.

Hmm… Cause your iPhone is not connected to your Wi-Fi network and 3G cellular coverage really sucks in your area?

lol… Dipsh*t answer for dipsh*t question. But seriously try to delete the network and reconnect again. Other questions: Are you using 802.11n? What band? What iPhone? Does this kb make sense http://support.apple.com/.../kb/ts3727?

The reason is because they have different antennas. The antenna in your laptop is larger in a probably adds more gain to the signal. You iPhone's antenna is smaller. Also orientation matters. Your laptop's antenna is probably mounted around your monitor is probably has more of its surface area pointed available for the signal. If your iPhone is laying down, not so much.

  • Recently installed iOS 7.0 but something is missing? I own an iPod Touch 5th Gen. I'm from the UK and I updated my OS last night. I noticed that on the music app, there's no iTunes radio. Is this a feature that Apple will add later? I'm a little confused as Apple boasted about this new feature and it is nowhere to be seen. Maybe it is exclusive to iPhones and/or iPads or maybe it isn't released in the UK yet… Ahh, I just don't know. Anybody got some advice for me?
  • My iPhone suddenly has weak Wi-Fi signal strength? This has been going on for about a week now and it happened suddenly. My 3GS suddenly has terrible Wi-Fi signal strength, meaning that if I'm in my room now, I can't get Wi-Fi while sitting on my bed. I have to be on the same floor basically as my router. Is there something I can do? Is there dust blocking something? Tips please?
  • Internet is running slow but strength is excellent? The internet on my iPhone & laptop are both running slow. It says excellent connection but when I try to watch a video on youtube or load a webpage it takes forever to load even though i'm in the same room as the router. I called my isp and the solution worked for like an hour. I tried unplugging router. It's not because of multiple devices being on at the same time. Any idea on how to fix this?
