Will I be forced to carry a smartphone/Iphone?

I don't even know what to call the touch screen device everyone is carrying with them these days.

When I was in high school I was told to get an e-mail address so my school could contact me easily. When I got married my wife forced me to get a cellphone. Also these days so much can ONLY be done online. Apply for University/College? Do it online. Buy a plane ticket and apply for a Visa? Do it online.

I have adapted as necessary. Recently however I've been told my regular cellphone is not enough. I've been seeing a lot of advertising on TV for smartphone apps that do things like instant doctor consultation. There's also a star gazing app and navigation apps.

My brother encouraged me to have such a device. I tried it but ultimately found it too complicated and kept using my old cellphone. I don't feel I need it as I'm perfectly content with my laptop and home PC. I don't need instant access to Facebook or twitter because not a lot of people care to know what I do every day.

But with all this hype about phone apps, will I be forced by someone or some people sooner or later to have a touch screen device with me everywhere I go?

Nobody will force you into anything. But later on you will be percieved as weird more and more.

When I was in high school they forced me you buy a calculator for around $100, now it is a free app on a smartphone. Life moved on, so much you.

I still use my old a$$ phone. Had it for like 6 years and still using it. Replaced the battery many times on it though (find them for like 3 bucks + shipping on amazon). Only good for calling and texting. If I want to play games and use applications then I'll use my machine. I'm going to keep using my phone until it basically fails on me.
