Will replacing an iPhones motherboard remove the iCloud Activation lock?

Added (1). Thanks for the help everyone, found my original receipt deep in the filing cabinet lol, I found out I can bring it to Apple and they will do it!

It would basically be a new phone - and would probably not save you anything. Just stop buying stolen phones!

No.

You do realize that the logic board IS the phone? Replacing the logic board would be like getting a new phone in the old phone's shell. You would also need to be 100% positive that the 'new' logic board isn't also iCloud locked and have a clean IMEI. Otherwise, you're back to the same problem.

The serial number printed on the back of the phone would not match with what is displayed on the phone's settings. That might make things odd if you were to sell the phone.

Considering the near-solid state of cellphones (iPhone included), replacing the motherboard would practically replace the entire phone itself (excluding the battery & screen)… So you're technically not removing the activation lock.

I will note that changing the motherboard would raise MASSIVE RED FLAGS on the legitimacy of the iPhone itself as the IMEI number physically noted on the phone will NOT match up the IMEI number noted by the phone's software. This may likely raise MASSIVE RED FLAGS with Apple as well. Considering that the IMEI numbers are HARDCODED into the phones during the manufacturing process (as each cellphone manufacturer is assigned specific ranges of IMEI numbers, per international telecommunications regulations), it can't be manipulated or changed.

As a result, you're better off just getting a new iPhone than attempting any modifications with the iPhone you currently have due to the potential headaches you may run into… As it does raise serious questions on why you want to bypass the Activation Lock (since it suggests that the iPhone in question is not legally yours).

  • Where to repair motherboard of iPhone 5s? My iPhone 5s broke when I dropped it, so I took it to a repair shop. They said the motherboard was broken but they don't replace it. Does anyone know where I can go to get it fixed? My zip code is 90034, thanks
  • Remove icloud lock replacing which part? Which part in the iPhone 4 can I replace to remove icloud lock? Would it be stored in the motherboard? Please help! I can't restore/DFU mode or get the activation lock off! (And yes the phone is mine I just forgot the info because I haven't used it in 5 years)
  • Is the motherboard on my IPhone 6 fried? So I have an IPhone 6 and I recently had let it die because I wasn't going to use it for awhile. It must've gone completely flat because afterwards it wouldn't even show the dead battery screen. About 3 days after I put it to charge and it just went into the apple logo loop and won't hold any charge as when I unplug it it shuts off. Is the motherboard on my phone fried or is it a software issue?
