It's possible. There's an Apple event on Sempter 12 that people are speculating to be the announcement of a new Iphone, and if so then it'll likely drop soon after.
It would be discontinued but there will be a 2018 model (expected to be called the iPhone Xs) which would retail for less than the $999. Despite that though you may be able to find one of the 2017 models for a reduced price before they sell out for good.
I would guess because a new one will be coming out, I'm sure lots of used ones will be available on craigslist and places like that as people start upgradiing, thats the usual pattern as thats a good time to get a used one.
