10GB of data? What does it mean?

So I just upgraded to a smart phone (iPhone) and our plan we have unlimited text and call. And ten gb of shared data. I'm confused on what that means.

Does it mean it you can be only for so long
Or does it mean you can download so much?
Does saving pictures from FB or the web count as ''downloading'.
So can someone explain?
I just don't want to go over the limit and make the bill very high and get in trouble
Thanks.

Added (1). Also, does our Wi-Fi count on our usage when we're at home. Because we have wi-fi.
and when I'm at school I want to listen to I heartradio and pandora (music) so even if I still
do that will I be okay. It sounds like to me that it's the amount of usage and downloading we
have on our plan. We all share one plan so that's why I wanna be sure.

There's four Iphones and I think we're going to add a line for my mom's business phone
on our plan. So five.

It is the amount of data on your phone. Data can be used up by pictures, apps, music, etc.

It means you can download up to 10 gigabytes of data. The only way you could possibly finish that in a month is by downloading torrents etc.saving pictures from facebook do count as downloading, but you couldn't possibly finish 10gigs of data just by doing that.

Ok so i will tell you, 10 gb of data is a lot for a phone but you said it's shared so it really depends how many devices are sharing it. If there are 2 devices, each device or iphone get 5 gb, if there are 3 then each iphone or device get 3.5 gb of data.gb is how much data you give and receive on your phone. When you use the internet on your phone, you phone sends information and receives information and this information is measured in gigabites(gb). If you 1 web search your phone it will use few kb. 1000 kb make up 1 mb of data and 1000mb of data make up 1 gb of data.internet searching, surfing the web, streaming music and using apps such as facebook will only use a few mb of data but streaming video such as youtube and netflix will use a lot of mb. I hope this helps. Go to this website: http://www.verizonwireless.com/....jsp.shtml to calculate how much data you will need. Also you can search google for data calculator and it will tell you how much data you need.

On average a person will use just 500MB of data a month, you've basically been sold 20x the average amount!

You can't really convert 10GB into time as browsing, downloading and uploading will use different amounts per minute. Put it this way, if you wanted to browse FB 24hrs a day for 1 month, you will NOT even be close to reaching your 10GB limit. Last month I used 90.28MB of data on FB browsing (that includes uploading photos, changing status, regular reading my news thread, looking at profiles), I would say I was an average user.

If you save any photos from online to your phone this will count as a download but this will probably only use up maybe 500KB -20MB

Just in case you were wondering there are a 1000KB to 1MB, 1000MB to 1GB

Data usage refers to anything that uses internet (Apps that use internet like Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, iHeartradio because those radio stations stream their content via the internet)

Wi-Fi doesn't count as data usage because you're using your own personal internet not the cellular service from your provider (3G/4G cellular service)
