Am I still using data when I'm on Wi-Fi?

An I still using up my cellular data (& being charged) when I'm on my own Wi-Fi. If not, why is my phone bill so high? (I have an iPhone 5)

No it doesn't. I have an Iphone as well and when I'm home, at work or school, I se Wi-Fi to avoid using my own data and I never go over. You gotta call your carrier and have them explain your bill and why you're paying so much. When you are home make sure you are connected. My phone automatically connects to my Wi-Fi but there are times when it doensn't so I have to do it myself. But no it should not be using your data if you are connected to Wi-Fi

Just happened to me as well and I tested it with my ipad. All weekend long, it sat absolutely UnUsed on my kitchen table totally hooked to my Wi-Fi and yet my bill still shows data usage for those exact dates. The Wi-Fi assist is not on. Totally unacceptable from CELLCOM! I tested this several time with Verizon also and it showed data usage when not, so I left them a long time ago!

  • Using my O2 free mobile data in Spain - do I turn data roaming on or will this charge? It's now free to text and call and use mobile data in Europe and I'm on contract with O2 and have unlimited everything. I'm just wondering if on my iPhone I have to turn data roaming on to get this or will this charge me? How does it work? As when I turn on my mobile data without data roaming the 3G doesn't work until I actually turn on data roaming?

  • If you are using Wi-Fi on an iPhone, do certain tasks use your data plan still? I know using Wi-Fi is very efficient to slow down your data plan usage, but does it completely eliminate using data out of a monthly data plan on phones or does it just cover part of your everyday tasks? Say I was on Wi-Fi and watched videos all the time, downloaded apps all the time, etc. And I was also under Verizon 4g. Would the Wi-Fi completely cover all of that browsing and usage or would any of the data "leak" from my data plan?
