American iphone 4s won't send or receive calls or texts in Brazil?

Iphone 4s/verizon won't connect to service provider after traveling to Brazil from the US. Have tried resetting it many times and still showing no signal.

Added (1). Phone is international and has worked in Mexico and Europe. Not just one phone

There's no CDMA (what verizon uses) support in South America

you can unlock the phone and install a GSM SIM card, but otherwise this phone will not work in Brazil (or any other south american country)

  • Why won't my new iPhone 6 (AT&T) send or receive texts/calls? I activated it two hours ago and backed it up with the data and phone number from my old iPhone 4. Both phones now read AT&T and show cellular signal and data in the top left hand corner. But when you text or call my phone number, the iPhone 4 receives it. Why won't my new phone receive it?
