Are you aware books may not be around anymore in our lifetime?

I mean books in the physical and tangible sense, made of paper. Of course books will stay, but they'll all become online.
Technology is advancing so quickly right now, that there are going to be so many changes to our world we can't yet comprehend. If people lived without iphones only 10 years ago, then in 10 years what would they be saying we were living without today? In some decade books will just stop being around. Everything is being digitised around the world. Libraries are using equipment to scan and process documents, books, articles, etc. In the thousands every day. Once everything gradually becomes online, and people begin to turn more and more to technology, new generations will become born into these circumstances and will view it as the norm. Physical books will become extinct. When you go into a library these days, the majority of people are using the technology section, and not much of the book section. This is what i have observed from many local libraries. Now this is of course a very small part of the picture. I'm not arguing whther this is good nor bad. I'm just putting this idea out there that i have briefly discussed with my teacher in my extension history class.

I dunno. I don't really see this happening. A lot of people still love physical books.

people say the same thing about music albums. But people still buy and collect CDs, vinyl and even cassette tapes.

i think digital will become more popular for publishing… But as an alternative to physical rather than a replacement.

But who knows. Time will tell. I'd miss physical books. Maybe it's just my hopeful wishing that they won't all go digital.

Maybe someday books will no longer be printed, but I doubt it'll be in any of our lifetimes, and we'll certainly still have the books that are already printed. They would become more valuable. Some more than others, ofc.

Our grandson is 2.9 years old, every night and of course during the day his parents READ to him from BOOKS. He loves this, he digest this with a vengeance. He will say AGAIN and even when the stories are finished he will say it once AGAIN.

I like to think he is learning from this, I know he is learning from this. Can you imagine in 10/15 years time putting your child to bed and letting him look at a TV screen instead of reading the little guy/girl a bedtime story?

Diane, BOOKS WILL ALWAYS BE AROUND…

I like the fact I can have all books on a ipad without having a bunch of books laying around. Books will still exist, but they are already disappearing as there's no way I would buy a paperback today.

  • Why can't I hide or delete books on the Books app on my iPhone? I uploaded some free books to read on the app and after a couple chapters wasn't interested in them. I tried to delete them and they didn't go away. I tried to hide them and they still wouldn't go away. Now when I click "edit" it greys out the delete and hide options completely. I'm aggravated because I can't get rid of them no matter what I've tried.
  • Were you aware that the iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s for Verizon come unlocked? Last weeks I tried a tmobile SIM card and it worked. The AT&T one works perfectly now, and I'm sticking with them now for better coverage in my area. Just wanted to let people know.
  • This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone? I have a life proof case and I took it under water. I noticed some water inside the case so I took it off and saw that there was water on the outside of the phone. Ever since then a note pops up every 15-30 seconds saying "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this phone". What should I do? Is there a way to fix it? My phone is virtually unusable since this annoying message keeps popping up. Any help would be appreciated.
  • This cable is not recommended for this iPhone and may not be reliable? I recently bought a new but un-Apple-certified lightning cord for my iPhone 5c, but this error message has started popping up after about using it about 5 times. Now, my phone is completely dead, and I have no money to buy a new cable, no cable that will charge my phone, and a dead phone. I'm completely desperate for help here, since, like a cliche white girl, my phone is my life.
