At what age would you let your kid have an iPhone?

I volunteer at the elementary school to help kids with reading and math. I see a lot of kids with iPhones and tablets. I understand why because there a a lot of fun games on iPhones, and you never know when kids need to make a phone call in case of an emergency.

If you had a kid, what age would you let them have an iPhone?

Twelve

I'd give my child a cellphone at least by age 5, but it would be a basic dialing type. No need for it to be an iPhone.

I wouldn't give a kid a smartphone until high school. I would give an elementary schooler or middle schooler a basic cellphone.

Maybe like 10 or 9

Lots of kids know how to use phones now because the younger generation is better with technology than the older generation is I think

13. I suppose I'd give them a basic phone just for emergencies when they start school.

I'd give my child a cell phone at 5th grade, but if he's out a lot with friends, maybe a little lower.

I'd give my child a smart phone at the end of middle school because smartphones are expensive, and somehow, people always drop them making it look like someone shot it with a gun

Whenever his peers have the same stuff, i don't want my child to be an outcast like i was

i didn't get no DL, no cell, no laptop until i was 19
i was an outcast socially and cool stuff wise, it wasn't fair, my brother got his DL when he was 16, cell at 14 and laptop at 17. He fit right in

8 but, only basic phone. 18 for the I phone. The unlimited access would bother me. Kids only need a phone for emergencies. Not to connect to a sexual on-line predator! At home he/she could do homework on the home computer.

How can you teach kids when you don't know the difference between there and they are (they're) is beyond me. Kids learn fast and if the parents can afford a tablet then it's ok, but not taken to school. As for a phone, if it is necessary for safety reasons then a basic phone that only makes and receives calls is ok i suppose, because we live in a sick society these days and the internet is partly to blame for that.

I think its good they learn about the technology, plus today thats how they keep in touch with friends and its a good way to make sure they can always msg or contact you. You could also start out with an ipad instead and have no monthly fee, then they could still imessage friends over Wi-Fi and you would be able to monitor evertyhing easier when they are younger.
