Bought a Verizon iPhone from Craigslist
So. I recently bought an Iphone through craigslist. Upon getting it I tried to go to verizon and have MY account set on the phone. Unfortunately they told me that I wouldn't be able to activate the phone unless the previous owner releases information. Is there a way around this?
I think your only option is to flash to another network.
By "releases information" they mean he got it for a discount on a 2 year contract and cancelled or did not pay the monthly bill and they cancelled him. Now he owes the rest of the pro-rated retail price of the phone. It has a blocked ESN because it is essentially "STOLEN" because of contract obligations. Since Verizon iPhones do not have a SIM card, the ESN is the only network identifier. If the ESN is listed as bad, NO CARRIER will accept it on their network, it would have to be used on a pre-paid carrier network IF IT'S COMPATIBLE. Verizon has a CDMA network, Sprint and AT&T have GSM… Not compatible.
