Bought fake iPhone off eBay - what can I do?

I bought a white iPhone 4S off eBay a few months ago when my old iPhone 5 was stolen and could not afford to pay full price for a new one or a new contract, so decided to pay £220 on ebay. To bypass postage costs, ebay and paypal fees, i decided to pick it up in person, pay in cash and the seller ended the auction early for me so i never actually "bought" it on ebay, looking back I know this was a bad idea!
Phone was described as used but in mint condition, fully working genuine apple phone etc.
Few months in - fine. Last week the screen started to go faulty and phone would not switch on, basically it was broken so I took it to the apple store, expecting a replacement for £140 (I've had to do this before!). There they unfortunately told me they couldn't do this because it was actually a FAKE iPhone I bought off eBay, the screen among other parts had been replacd and they could do nothing for me. The phone was unusable so I had to buy a brand new handset from the apple store, costing over £400 which is obviously very annoying, especially when I could have bought this outright and saved myself £220 on the broken phone.
Have checked the listing, no mention of this at all, described as a genuine apple iPhone 4S. I have contacted the seller but in the mean time i'm wondering what I can do, would eBay be able to offer me any help even though I physically didn't click the buy button on their site?

E bay warns you about doing this for the reasons you have encountered, I don't think they can help you but you could contact trading standards who could confiscate all his fake goods.

You could report them and see what they say. This could help them give new rules to stop other people from having this problem, but I'm not sure what they'd say.

They would either be really helpful and help contact the former owner, or do nothing, since you didn't click buy they don't have to do anything.

If I were you, I would wait for the former owners response and see what they say, if they reply at all mind you.

Sorry, but there's absolutely nothing you can do.ebay warns people not to do what you did, and they are no longer responsible if you choose to do that.

for All future ebay purchases, do the buying right on the site. Or you can do nothing if you get scammed.

Oh so sad to hear that from you. Well, you must be intelligent and smart to buy goods in this age of science and technology. I would like to buy goods that are Iso certified and verified.

I never understood the desire to own an iPhone as when you do the research it make no sense as why you are paying such ridiculous prices.
That you have spent that amount of money for a lookalike is bizarre as just for cosmetic purposes just so someone could think you had an iPhone

If you had done things proper you would have had 45 days in which to make a claim Ebay won't help
and I think could not as you even if in time you went outside. You helped the seller avoid paying fees to Ebay and providing "insurance" for this

Why would anyone describe an iphone as "genuine", I look for that in battery description, genuine Nokia genuine Samsung BATTERY, none of my phone have had "genuine" in the description

I'm harsh this answer if for others who may be tempted NOT to spend £500.00 on a real Iphone but spend £220.00 on a "genuine" phone
