Can I get my AT&T iphone 4s unlocked and use it on verizon?

I currently have an AT&T iphone 4s. I want to get Verizon services but I do not want to be stuck in a 2 year contract with them. If I unlock my AT&T iphone will I be able to call Verizon& have them activate the phone for me?

Also is unlocking your phone permanent?

When they make a iPhone they put a special sim card into the iPhone relevant to the carrier. Most phones you can just switch out the sim card and replace it with one from the carrier you are going to switch to. But the iPhones sim card is embedded into the phone and the only way to get it out would be to take apart the phone. In short, no you will have to get a iphone 4s that is not carrier specific.another option is to try and sell the phone you have on craigslist or ebay so that you can use the money to get a iphone from verizon.

P.S. Verizon is real stubborn when it comes to data plans. They will slow data down if they think you are using to much. Just thought you ought to know.

No, Verizon is cdma technology and does not use sim cards.AT&T is gsm technology with a sim card. Two totally different technologies that are not compatible.

AT&T is GSM it will not work with Verizon it is CDMA you can get a Permanent unlock for your AT&T and use it on any GSM.
We provide an AT&T Official, Permanent, Apple unlock that remove any network restrictions your iPhone may have by marking your handset as unlocked in Apple's IMEI database. It allows you to use your handset on any network worldwide.
you can safely update the OS on your handset at any time, and sync your device with your computer without fear of Apple removing your unlock.

Nope, you can't use AT&T iPhone on Verizon even after unlocking as Verizon is CDMA (doesn't use SIM) and AT&T is GSM (uses SIM). They're incompatible.
